Roles

Listed below are descriptions of volunteer positions available, and what to expect at "A Day In The Life of an MSS Volunteer". Please keep in mind, all descriptions are general and a volunteer may be requested to do more or less than the duties listed.

Event Operations Assistant
 

Pre Event: Duties may include, but are not limited to: putting up banners, placing barricades, filling water containers with water and ice, keeping skater lounges clean, delivering items throughout the site.

During Event: Duties may include, but are not limited to: putting up banners, placing barricades, Filling water containers with water and ice, keeping skater lounges clean, delivering items throughout the site, assisting ramp crew in case of rain (squeegying and towel drying ramps), assist in fulfilling the needs of sponsors and exhibitors in the sponsor alley, helping set-up booths, errands for sponsors, deliveries of articles to booths, researching and/or obtaining items from venue and/or operations director, getting answers, staffing video game booths.

Skatepark Assistant
  Duties may include, but are not limited to: helping with the operations of the open skatepark during public use, including collection and verification of waivers, session times, order and conduct of skates and enforcement of protective gear rules.
   
What to Expect: Lots of hurry and wait (times very busy and not at all), paperwork, money handling, verifying waivers, little manual labor
Good Points: Access to Athletes, VIP's and Staff, High Satisfaction Ratio

Merchandising
  Assist in ASA/MSS merchandising booth to sell T-shirts, hats and other merchandise. Duties may include, but are not limited to: organizing and displaying product, keeping track of inventory, retrieving product from storage, sales to public attending the event.
 
What to Expect: Must be Confident and Outgoing, Have Good Communication Skills, Busy, Steady, Centralized
Good Points: High Contact with Public, Great Sales Experience

Information/VIP
  Assist in distributing information about the event, including answering questions directly from public. Duties may include, but are not limited to: checking in VIPs, assisting security, running errands for information booth coordinator, assisting merchandise booth.
 
What to Expect: May Get Hectic, Must be Confident and Outgoing, Have Good Communication Skills, Little Manual Labor
Good Points: Access to VIPs, Good People Skills Experience, Centralized

Media & Information/VIP Booth Assistant
  Assist public relations representative and information/VIP volunteer. Duties may include, but are not limited to: distributing information about the event, including answering questions from the media, sponsors and public, checking in media, checking in VIPs, assisting security, running errands for information booth coordinator & public relations representative, assisting merchandise booth.
 
What to Expect: May Get Hectic, Must be Confident and Outgoing, Have Good Communication Skills, Little Manual Labor
Good Points: Access to VIPs, Media, Good People Skills & Public Relations Experience, Centralized, High Variety

TV Production Assistant
  Assist and work closely with TV producers, cameraman, etc. Duties may include, but are not limited to: assisting crew with interviews, logging tape, running errands, delivering results, etc.
 
What to Expect: Anything and Everything
Good Points: Access to On-Air Team and TV Crew
